Why cichlids?

It's true that cichlids need large aquariums, if one doesn't choose the small dwarf cichlids from South America.
It's also true that they dig and can fight formidable territorial fights.
But what also needs to be mentioned is their shining colours, their exciting and interesting behaviour, their fascinating parental care and their evident intelligence.
The interest for cichlids has risen steadily through the last many years.

Cichlids from African lakes.

The two most important and biggest lakes are the MALAWI and the TANGANYIKA lake.
These 2 big lakes reside in East Africa and they are almost as big as some oceans.
They contain countless cichlid species, of which most are endemic, which means that they only live on this place, often even only on a very limited locality.
It is not strange that these colorful fish which in beauty are only surpassed by fish from the coral reefs, have become so popular.
